Corporate Social Responsibility - CSR

The term corporate social responsibility (CSR) refers to practices and policies undertaken by corporations that are intended to fulfil their social obligation to the society. The Government of India has made it mandatory for companies of certain defined categories to contribute part of their profit to social activities. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 makes it mandatory for companies having a Net worth of Rs.500 Crore / Turnover of Rs.1,000 Crore / Net profit of Rs. 5 crore must ensure to spend in every financial year at least 2% of its average net profits made during the immediately preceding three financial years for in CSR Activities.

The CSR activities in Schedule VII of the Indian Companies Act 2013 defines the allowed activities for CSR focused by LSSSDC:

  • 1. Improvement in education which includes Special Education and Employment strengthening Vocational Skills among children, women, elderly and the differently-abled and livelihood enhancement projects.
  • 2. Safeguarding environmental sustainability, ecological balance, protection of flora and fauna, conservation of natural resources and maintaining a quality of soil, air and water.
  • 3. Engagement in Incubators or Research and development projects in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Medicine
  • 4. Engagement in conducting research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Medicine aimed at promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • 5. Rural development projects.
